Nexstar Media Group News Photographer/MMJ in Springfield, Missouri

KOLR 10/FOX 49 in Springfield, Missouri is hiring a Photographer/MMJ. The ideal candidate must be passionate about journalism. This is someone who develops relevant, compelling, and impactful stories. You will be expected to cultivate sources, dig below the surface, and hold officials accountable. This is a hybrid position for a highly motivated self-starter. The candidate selected could be assigned to shoot, report, or both . Working in the Ozarks, you’ll cover breaking news, severe weather, and news of the day. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Will be proficient with a camera, laptop editor, and a TVU backpack.

  • Report news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events.

  • Build a network of sources to help KOLR 10/FOX 49 News stay ahead of its competitors.

  • Pitch stories to managers and producers that are relevant to the local community.

  • Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas.

  • Research topics, vet tips for credibility and relevance, and gather information.

  • Check reference materials such as books, news files, or public records to obtain relevant facts.

  • Arrange and conduct interviews with people who provide information about stories.

  • Revises work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements.

  • Reviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details.

  • Determines a story’s emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly.

  • Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions.

  • Writes stories for the web and digital platforms.

  • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites.

    Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad-lib when required.

  • Minimum experience in a newsroom or a focus on shooting and reporting.

  • Confident on-air presence.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Learn to use cameras, editing equipment, and newsroom computer systems.

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

  • Flexibility to work any shift.
