Director, Community Engagement and President, Bayer Fund

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director Community Engagement and President, Bayer Fund are to:

Reporting to the Vice President, Public Affairs, Sustainability and Safety, the Director, Community Engagement and President, Bayer Fund is accountable for leading and administering the Bayer Fund, the philanthropic arm of Bayer in the United States. Bayer Fund develops programs and makes strategic investments to qualified non-profit organizations tackling big challenges – combatting malnutrition and food insecurity and providing support services for patients and families managing cardiovascular disease and cancer.

In addition, this role is responsible for leading Bayer’s community engagement in the greater St. Louis region.

This role will be a key member of the public affairs team that is responsible for developing and executing strategies to protect our freedom to operate, promote future business growth, advance our reputation with key stakeholders and drive our presence in the St. Louis community.

This role and team will also be accountable for managing the Bayer Fund board of directors.

The core responsibility of this role is to design and implement Bayer’s philanthropic strategy in the United States in conjunction with business leaders and the Bayer Fund board of directors. The Director also engages with key trade associations, industry groups and NGOs to build and drive diverse coalitions that advance our business interests.

  • Responsible for advancing Bayer’s philanthropic strategy in the United States and building partnership with key community organizations;

  • Develops and leads Bayer’s charitable giving strategy in conjunction with the Bayer Fund board;

  • Accountable for monitoring and anticipating activities that could impact Bayer's operations in the United States and developing plans to improve our corporate reputation;

  • Responsible for promoting policies that maximize the sales and profitability of Bayer’s products and business operations in the states;

  • Develop, direct and execute programs in cooperation and collaboration with the Bayer government affairs team, senior executives and the relevant divisions;

  • The role, both personally and through the government affairs team, represents Bayer before the highest levels of government by building strong, enduring relationships with official;

  • Maximizes the effectiveness of local government and trade associations by making them aware of key Bayer priorities, the impact on our business and the imperative to support them proactively in coordination with the relevant divisions;

  • Builds diverse coalitions of associations, NGOs and advocacy groups that broaden our support and effectiveness;

  • Responsible for ensuring Bayer's compliance with all state and local ethics/lobbying laws.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant corporate, NGO or association experience is strongly desired;

  • Extensive experience working with and managing boards;

  • Collaborative working style that creates buy-in and commitment from colleagues and key external stakeholders;

  • Exceptional understanding of business, public policy development and politics. Strong strategic planning skill and the ability to be forward-thinking and proactive;

  • The skill to manage often competing business interests and develop plans that reflect the best interest of Bayer;

  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast –paced environment where priorities and direction may change frequently;

  • Proven ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the Bayer organization in all regions, including senior management;

  • Must be professional and have the ability to handle people and situations with tact, diplomacy, discretion, confidentiality and a sense of urgency;

  • Experience presenting before senior executives and policymakers on important legislative and policy issues;

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with impeccable ethics and a high-level of integrity;

  • Strong time management, budget and organizational skills required;

  • Ability to identify, manage and develop talent;

  • Exceptional verbal, written and listening skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The Director will have 10+ years working in philanthropy, communications, government relations or other relevant experience;
