Pay Rate/Benefits: The pay range for this role is generally$46,300 - $50,000 annuallycommensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI)drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Domestic Violence Specialist is part of a Domestic Violence (DV) services team providing community education and training, engagement, crisis intervention, case management, and trauma recovery support. The DV Specialist will assist the Domestic Violence Coordinator in planning, organizing, and leading structured client and healthcare provider DV workshops and trainings as well as establishing DV community partnerships and trainings for community based organizations and medical providers.

The Domestic Violence Specialist is responsible for providing case management, patient navigation, and referral services for DV survivors. This includes intake/screening, safety planning, sexual and reproductive health education, and linkage and navigation services for all program participants. CHASI's Domestic Violence and Trauma services are co-located at 26 Bay Street and the Staten Island Family Justice Center (126 Stuyvesant Place). This role primarily works out of 26 Bay St and works a Monday-Friday, 9a-5p schedule with flexibility required for some evening and weekend events, with advanced notice.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct client workshops on DV, women’s health, and empowerment.

• Conduct workshops for healthcare providers about signs and symptoms of abuse, strangulation, and referral.

• Conduct basic domestic violence trainings for community-based organizations and medical providers.

• Provide DV and sexual health education to victims of domestic violence.

• Conduct initial intake/screening, safety planning, and risk assessment.

• Determine client’s immediate needs and complete service plan accordingly.

• Provide information, referral, and advocacy to clients.

• Link and refer clients to appropriate services with on-and -off site Family Justice Center partners.

• Work with on-site and off-site partners to schedule client appointments.

• Ensure clients are linked to primary care and sexual health services.

• Document client’s interactions in all assigned databases.

• Accompany clients as necessary to ensure successful engagement in care.

• Assist DV counselor with preparation and facilitation of group sessions.

• Provide case management services as needed.

• Coordinate services designed to integrate substance abuse treatment, mental health, and other recovery support services for all program participants.

• Attend regular and mandatory team, department meetings, trainings and contractor-facilitated provider meetings

• Build domestic violence community partnerships across Staten Island.

• Align all activities with CHASI’s mission, core values, and culture.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 2 years of experience working with culturally diverse and vulnerable populations who have experienced trauma. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to engage and serve the domestic violence population from a trauma-informed perspective.

• High School diploma or equivalency required; some college or a college degree, preferred.

• Previous experience in trauma informed care & case management is strongly preferred, especially those with experience working with survivors of domestic or intimate partner violence.

• Experience facilitating educational workshops/presentations.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency preferred
