Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in life sciences, chemistry or related discipline. Two or more years' experience in general wet laboratory operations, sample preparation for electron microscopy, and basic microscopy imaging. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in life sciences, chemistry or related discipline. Experience with the cryo-EM sample preparation and ultramicrotome sectioning, operation of electron, confocal, and atomic force microscopes. Brief Description of Duties:
The Senior Research Support Specialist will be responsible for sample preparation for electron microscopy, and operation and maintenance of related equipment. Assist to operate and maintain various microscopes and assist with managing scheduling and billing in the facility. The ideal applicant will exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety. The ideal applicant has excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ideal applicant has the ability to work with faculty, staff and students in a shared resource facility. The ideal applicant has the ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting.Duties:

  • Sample preparation for TEM and SEM including the processing, embedding, and sectioning of tissues and cells, and cryo-TEM/SEM.
  • Operation and maintenance of related specialized sample preparation equipment.
  • Develop, monitor, coordinate and manage activities to maintain effective operation of the program.
  • Safe handling and storage of chemicals and disposal of hazardous wastes according to EHS regulation.
  • Ordering of supplies and chemicals.
  • Verification of accuracy of records and maintenance of appropriate documentation.
  • Operate and maintain various microscopes including electron microscopes, confocal microscopes, super-resolution microscopes, atomic force microscope, and ancillary equipment in the facility in two different locations.
  • Manage scheduling and billing and contact service technicians for necessary services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
