Job Title: Phlebotomist II - SuwaneeJob Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

  • Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.

  • Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Understand and follow all physician orders accurately.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

  • Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport, store specimens at the required temperature, and place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes.

  • Follow different procedures as outlined to maintain the integrity of the specimen for transport.

  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attend annual department training sessions.

  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, if required.

  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.

  • Customer service experience.

  • Experience with 25+ patient draws per day.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in trouble shooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

  • Ability to follow established procedures for specimen collection and storage.

  • Strong communication skills to explain procedures to patients.

  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in labeling and matching requisition forms.

Work Environment

This position is based at North Atlanta Women's Specialist on Johns Creek Parkway. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. The role involves performing 30+ draws per day in a fast-paced environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
