Your role at Clorox:

We are looking for a Head of Category Strategy & Shopper Marketing ANZ to join us in a full-time permanent capacity. This role will be hybrid working – approximately 3 days per week from our Sydney Olympic Park office and 2 days per week working from home. This position will report directly to the ANZ Sales Director and will have 3 direct reports. The role will lead the ANZ Category & Shopper Marketing team of 6 dispersed across Sydney and Auckland.

The Head of Category Strategy & Shopper Marketing ANZ position is a highly strategic role responsible for developing and executing the business strategy via the customer teams. They are uniquely responsible for leading the Category, Strategic Customer Planning and Shopper Marketing processes and the associated capabilities within ANZ and for driving the category growth vision of assigned Clorox brands in the ANZ market. This role will also be crucial in leading the translation of our customer strategies into our category strategies and provide leadership of Category in key processes pertaining to internal meetings, key customer interactions as well as overseeing the shopper marketing strategy.

The successful candidate will need to provide exceptional business partnership to other teams particularly Sales & Marketing within the organization as well as driving change and influence from a Category leadership perspective.

In this role, you will:

Lead Category Growth & Development:

  • Partner with internal Studio teams to develop category growth visions, external facing narratives and strategic customer plans.

  • Develop and oversee the shopper marketing strategy, integrated with the total market consumer demand strategy.

  • Develop the required category insights based off syndicated, retail and customer data sources, that lead to the identification and development of category growth drivers, opportunities and risks.

  • Lead the development of category range review narratives and supporting materials. Partner with customer managers on strategy for reviews with aligned objectives and outcomes.

  • Develop the customer & category narratives for new product launches/innovation, key initiatives, and priorities.

  • Monitor pricing strategies and competitor positioning.

Own and Lead the Sales Planning/Category Planning Process:

  • Establish the annual sales planning process and business plan development/deployment.

  • Develop and drive the strategic customer planning process (internal) with a focus on 36-month plans; ensure strategic customer strategies & joint tactics become embedded into the ANZ growth plans.

  • Drive ICP (Integrated Commercial Planning) processes and tracking initiatives.

  • Lead the development of the demand creation plan & tactics across categories, including direction on merchandising/promotion, shopper marketing and overall guidance on demand spending.

  • Lead the Assortment, Merchandising, Pricing, Shelving (AMPS) program from development through analytics & embed cross-functionally and throughout the sales chain, including sales & 3rd parties.

  • Provide recommendations to the Sales Director on trade funding – how much, how, what, when, etc. to optimize efficiency against objectives; ensures connection with Assortment, Merchandising, Pricing, Shelving objectives.

Team Management:

  • Undertake team management and leadership of 6 employees located in both Sydney and Auckland.

  • Develop talent and build a high performing team.

What we look for:

Required Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in a Category, Trade Marketing or Sales function within the Retail Grocery industry.

  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading diverse teams.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing category growth visions and shopper marketing strategies across ANZ.

  • Experience operating in ANZ grocery retail landscape (Woolworths, Coles Metcash/Independents, Foodstuffs).

  • Experience in coaching and developing capabilities of others.

  • Experienced using analytical tools – Quantium, IRI, Nielsen, Power BI.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong strategic thinking skills - can develop and execute category growth strategies.

  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to turn data into actionable insights.

  • Strong narrative development skills and an expert storyteller.

  • Demonstrated customer presentation skills – both verbal and written.

  • Strong cross functional collaboration and influencing skills.
