Southwestern Community College Medical Sonography Program Coordinator/Instructor in Sylva, North Carolina

Statement of Primary Purpose Provide instruction and administrative oversight of the Medical Sonography program. This position is responsible for program effectiveness, outcomes, review, planning and development. The position works a 9-month academic plus one summer session schedule.

Classification Curriculum faculty, full-time, exempt.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide program oversight and curriculum compliance that is in accordance with national, state and profession standards.
  • Serve as the Medical Sonography Program liaison to accrediting bodies and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with SCC staff to develop, implement and evaluate a program marketing strategy
  • Engage in marketing and recruitment of students
  • Work with clinical coordinator and Dean to secure clinical site agreements with agencies
  • Oversee, manage and process program records, reports and other required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Ensure the program provides relevant, effective learning experiences for students.
  • Develop and manage adequate budgetary resources to provide high quality instruction and efficient program operation.
  • Identifies and procures adequate learning materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Work with the program advisory members to ensure the curriculum is up to date and meets the needs of local employers, confirm appropriate members, conduct effective meetings to obtain member input and maintain related documentation.
  • Recruit, communicate and work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.
  • Maintain teaching course load in compliance with college and accreditation workload policy.
  • Collaborate with Dean of Health Sciences to establish program budget needs
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring to Medical Sonography students.
  • Maintain professional development/credentials
  • Perform any other assigned activities that enhance the Medical Sonography programs effectiveness.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee operation of the community medical sonography clinic.
  • Participate in College committees as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education Required: Baccalaureate degree Preferred: Masters degree

Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum of two years of full-time clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.
  • Documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in educational theories and techniques.
  • Ability to use current and emerging instructional technologies and distance learning technologies
  • Proficient in curriculum design, evaluation, instruction, and academic advising
  • Understand the importance of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Familiarization with regional accreditation standards, certification, and licensure requirements

Physical Demands Typical activities performed as a medical sonographer, teaching students in the use of sonography equipment, working with patients

Licensing Requirement Registered Medical Sonographer with credentials specific to the Abdomen and OB-GYN concentrations

Working Conditions and Environment Typical Campus environment, classroom/clinic site
