SUNY Upstate Medical University Associate VP for Regional Planning and Development in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Associate VP for Regional Planning and Development is responsible for furthering integration activity between Upstate University Hospital, Upstate Community Hospital, the Academic Campus, UUMAS physicians, and community providers as it relates to planning for sustaining operations and for future growth. The focus is on growth in the region and growth of critical clinical services. In conjunction with Clinical Services, this position implements expansion of services and ensures endorsement of CEO and senior management team. Provides leadership and guidance to the CEO and other senior leaders to establish partnerships and alliances that facilitate smooth market entry and ongoing operations in new regions. Address and communicate to the CEO and Senior leaders the risks of any expansion plans that could present potential setbacks. Ensures alignment of growth recommendations, other initiatives, and systems that have hospital-wide implications. Develops and implements policy with CEO and Senior Management team input in growth planning and decision making. Works with CEO and senior management team to plan clinical growth in the region including implementation and maintenance of a virtual network. This position will work closely with the hospital officer team for planning purposes to determine short and long-term objectives, to develop a plan to achieve those objectives, and to effectively communicate the plan to key stakeholders. This role requires a deep understanding of state and federal healthcare policy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments. Must be able to articulate the hospital's positions clearly and work collaboratively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to advance the hospital's objectives. This person must be able to effectively advocate for the hospital and build relationships with others that can advocate for the hospital, and guide us through the challenging intricacies of NYS regulation and politics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or related field and seven years of relevant progressive healthcare administration experience required. Documented track record of implementing and accomplishing effective planning in a large health care organization or system required. Strong verbal, active listening, and written communication skills required. Must be knowledgeable in business development and project planning. Must be current in healthcare trends and policies. Must be a team builder and possess good interpersonal skills, including the ability to persuade others to change their minds or behavior, and effectively work with all levels of an organization. Should immediately be recognizable as a leader. Must be self-directed, thorough, and committed to a team approach. Solid analytical skills and be able to make quick, effective decisions under pressure. Strong resource management skills, including the ability to effectively manage many projects/responsibilities simultaneously.
