Crouse Hospital Certified Recovery Peer Advocate in Syracuse, New York

The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) supports others in recovery from substance use disorders. The CRPA will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to prevent relapse and long-term recovery. The CRPA must demonstrate strong communication skills and professional boundaries. The CRPA must be willing and able to share personal experiences to encourage wellness and recovery.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains project logs, reports, and records in appropriate files and databases.

  2. Work with grant program coordinator to collect data to meet grant reporting requirements.

  3. Provides recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization and sustained recovery maintenance.

  4. Develops relationships with referral sources to ensure interactions which will promote that patient’s recovery; participates in joint treatment planning as appropriate.

  5. Support participants within the treatment setting and outside the treatment setting.

  6. Presents cases for supervision; responds to input and direction of supervisor (and Medical Director if appropriate).

  7. Consult with Supervisor concerning medical and psychiatric emergencies; follows written policies, consults with Psychologist and Psychiatrist as needed.

  8. Maintains standards of Professional conduct and adheres to the Canon of Ethics for Addiction Professionals.

  9. Maintain production as required. Clinical Documentation is completed within regulatory standards and good professional practice.

  10. Provides a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.

  11. Assists recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.

  12. Assists recovering persons in developing their own path for advancing their recovery.

  13. Recovery Wellness Planning through facilitating transition from a professionally directed plan to a self-directed recovery plan.

  14. Promotes self-advocacy by assisting persons to have their voices fully heard.

  15. Supports connections to community bases supports, mutual self-help groups. Link individuals to appropriate professional resources.

  16. Develops relationships with community agencies.

  17. Collaborates with the ATS multi-disciplinary treatment team.

  18. Attends meetings with the community to discuss recovery initiatives.

  19. Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.

    Job Requirements:

    Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Hold a NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA)

  • Provisional certifications will be considered.

  • Valid NYS Driver's License in accordance with Crouse Health's Driving policy

  • Access to reliable transportation

  • Experience coordinating services for or on behalf of other individuals is required.

    Special Sills/Equipment

  • Understanding of and respect for each individual’s unique pathway to recovery.

  • Working knowledge of the substance abuse treatment systems, support services, and a demonstrated commitment to the Recovery Community. Must have basic knowledge of Word, Excel and use of smartphone apps.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of addiction

    Hourly Rate Range

    $18.95 - $29.44/hour

    Based on verified education and experience
