The Network Security Engineer works to secure the Kansas Judicial Branch’s network and cloud infrastructure.  Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of assets through the deployment and maintenance of security technologies through configuring, testing, optimizing and implementing security solutions to improve overall information security.  This position is distinguished from other information technology positions by providing advanced information system security expertise to the branch in support of its mission and initiatives.

Job Duties:

  • Implement and maintain information security policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on security-related matters.

  • Monitor and analyze system access logs.

  • Perform vulnerability and penetration tests, identify, defend against and remediate threats, and develop secure backup and disaster recovery plans.

  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of advanced security technologies both local and in the cloud, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint protection, encryption, logging, as well as identity and access management solutions.

  • Maintain and manage compliance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Analyze log files to identify possible threats to the environment.

  • Lead and participate complex security initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Information Systems in designing and implementing all security-related functions for the judicial network.  This includes backup systems and procedures and disaster recovery plans and tests. 

  • Train staff to understand and use security protocols.

  • Provides support to other IS teams.

  • This position shares responsibilities with the IT Infrastructure Manager - Cybersecurity in a variety of different areas, including but not limited to firewalls, routers, switches, video applications, wireless QoS, proxy, VPNs, Cloud and access control systems.

  • Each employee is responsible for one’s own work product and may provide guidance, assistance, or mentorship to less knowledgeable or experienced coworkers. This may include scheduling of work, instructing in work methods, and reviewing work products.

    Required Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or a related field and four or more years’ experience directly working with firewalls and Cloud environments is required.

    OR

    Experience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis as follows: graduation from high school or equivalent and eight years working in computer-related areas; four years of the computer experience must be directly with firewalls and Cloud environments.

    Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to handle large and highly complex work assignments in a timely fashion. Working knowledge of security protocols, IT systems, security measures, cloud systems and best practices.

    Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer, CCNP, CISSP, SSCP, CEH, GIAC, Security +, OSCP, CCNA.
