Who we are?

CBC Marketing & Communications (MarComms) is an in-house advertising agency with art directors, graphic designers, copywriters, and creative directors, but we’re also a production house with promo producers, editors, motion graphic designers and audio engineers.

As you can imagine, things are pretty busy promoting the country’s national public broadcaster and driving audience engagement across all its platforms and programming. Based in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, work is done to support brilliant initiatives for markets right across the entire country, and we have the awards to prove it.

The CBC MarComms team is looking to expand our roster of casual and freelance Toronto-based talent. This is not for immediate hire or placement within MarComms.Contracts will range in length from a few of weeks to a couple of months as needed.

What types of roles do we typically require?

Producer, Content Marketing

  • The Producer is responsible for the creation of promotional campaigns, and social media strategies, that collaborates with program and corporate branding. Having the ability to both conceptualize and build promos that are informative, moving, timely and fascinating– while aligned with CBC’s brand voice and strategic best practices/style guides. Producers utilize years of broadcast experience to lead the overall creative design and production of a promo. Working with Creative leads, Program producers and the Marketing team to determine the order and importance of the various elements of promo content and/or a campaign.

Art Director, Content Marketing

  • The Art Director delivers the artistic design of advertising campaigns, key art, social media strategies, oversee photo shoots, collaborate on program and corporate branding, and have the ability to both conceptualize and build creative that is informative, bold, fresh and fun– while aligned with CBC’s brand voice and strategic best practices/style guides. They are the decision makers who are responsible for the quality of the finished product. Art Directors are called into various forums to lead teams in creative brainstorms, creative development and rollout regardless of media.

Copywriter, Content Marketing

  • The Copywriter is responsible for the all the messaging of advertising campaigns, social media strategies, audio and on-air promos, collaborate on program and corporate branding, and have the ability to both conceptualize and craft communications that are informative, clear, relevant and engaging– while aligned with CBC’s brand voice and strategic best practices/style guides. A best in class storyteller that contributes creatively by expanding distinctive concepts and expressing key insights. Copywriters strategize with Creative and Marketing teams in creative brainstorms, creative development and rollout regardless of media.

Senior Graphic Designer, Content Marketing

  • The Senior Designer provides creative solutions and execution in response to the creative strategy of priority titles for TV, radio, digital and the CBC brand elements for all advertising on both our internal assets, all paid media (OOH, billboards, digital assets) and across all platforms. A thought leader in design, who contributes creatively by developing original concepts and ensuring visual unity. There are sometimes requirements to work in a self-administered environment producing single short-term deliverables within constraints.

Our candidates should:

  • Possess an education or experience in advertising and/or the creative industry.

  • An appreciation of production processes and timelines.

  • A demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • A proven work ethic and a positive team-first attitude.

  • A portfolio or collection of work to show-off!

  • A demonstrated commitment to upholding the principles and practices of an inclusive work environment.
