As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of our backend systems and infrastructure. You will lead a team of skilled engineers to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our Generative AI platform, while also driving innovation and optimization initiatives.

*This role can be performed as a virtual telecommuter and may change as the business needs change.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels

  • Participate in the full software development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our customers

  • Manage cloud infrastructure tools and data.

  • Manage cloud infrastructure resources and optimize costs without compromising on performance or reliability.

  • Manage and improve container orchestration and deployment strategies.

  • Develop tools to manage continuous integration, software stack support, code quality and coverage.

  • Ensure and develop tools for monitoring security, privacy, and integrity of data and other resources.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Proven experience in backend development and infrastructure management

  • Strong expertise in cloud technologies (AWS and Azure) as well as both Linux and Windows based server instances.

  • Basic knowledge of database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and distributed computing systems.

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated data visualizations in Tableau

  • Experience with IT Administration

  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools for automation, CI/CD, and configuration management.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset towards identifying and resolving technical challenges.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with backend programming languages such as Python or Java is a plus.

  • Experience with eQ is nice to have.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a complex, technical environment.

  • Cloud certifications a plus.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
