Job Summary

This position provides multifaceted marketing and promotion efforts of the University of Illinois Press including coordinating book awards, providing publicity support, and assembling materials for academic conferences. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to multi-task.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Awards coordination: Communicate with authors about their preferred award opportunities. Create letters, complete submission/entry forms and ship out books for each award before deadline. Log award information into database when completed, make new files as necessary and file in electronic folders. Communicate award news to authors and UIP staff.
  • Publicity support: As directed by the Publicity Coordinator, send review copies to academic journals and media outlets. Coordinate incoming published book reviews to pull quotes/endorsements. Send quotes to authors, log in database, and excerpt for website. Assemble materials for online author kits. Create spiral bound advances for conferences and review outlets. Proofread seasonal catalog copy and other marketing materials as directed.
  • Exhibits support: Assemble materials for individual conferences and ship to conference locations. Coordinate with UIP staff and outside printer, to provide print flyers, bookmarks, and posters for conferences. Assemble book orders for the shipments. Coordinate outbound and return shipping of materials.
  • Author Marketing Questionnaires and Launch Materials: Create questionnaires in online form and send e-mail to new authors/titles with information to complete questionnaire online. Track/monitor responses. Organize/prepare Launch Meeting Materials?create final schedule and distribute to Marketing Department and Acquisitions Editors.
  • Attend book festivals, public events, and scholarly conferences to promote and sell published content.
  • Maintain harmonious and productive relations with authors, series editors, and other Press departments. Serve as positive representative of the Press to the public.
  • Foster innovation and cross-departmental collaboration at the Press. Contribute to Press wide committees and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor\'s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  1. Experience in publicity/promotion.
  2. Experience in book publishing.
  3. Knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • 2. Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments.
  • 3. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work accordingly to meet deadlines while staying on task with daily assignments.
  • 4. Strong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective work relationships.
  • 5. Excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with University and departmental officials/staff.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. T e expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/21/2024. System Office jobs such as this one are not eligible for the Referral Program. The minimum salary for this position is \$43,888 and the salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
