Port of Vancouver Vice President, Operations & Supply Chain in Vancouver, British Columbia

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an arm’s-length federal agency responsible for the shared stewardship of the lands and waters that make up the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest port. Our mandate, as outlined in the Canada Marine Act (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-6.7/) , is to enable Canada’s trade objectives on behalf of all Canadians, ensuring goods are moved safely through the Port of Vancouver, while protecting the environment and considering local communities.

Located on the southwest coast of British Columbia, the port extends from Roberts Bank and the Fraser River up to and including Burrard Inlet. Geographically, the port is about the same size as the next five largest Canadian ports combined. Its jurisdiction (https://www.portvancouver.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/2022-10-19-Map-jurisdictional.png) includes more than 16,000 hectares of water, more than 1,500 hectares of land and hundreds of kilometres of shoreline, bordering 16 municipalities and intersecting the traditional territories and treaty lands of 35 Coast Salish Indigenous groups.

Trade through the port connects Canadian businesses to international markets and consumers with the variety of products that we use every day from markets across the globe and generates tax revenues and secure employment for local communities. Home to 29 major terminals and more than 1,000 tenants, the port is the most diversified cargo-handling port in North America.

As part of the executive leadership team at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, the Vice President, Operations & Supply Chain champions the organization’s purpose of Enabling Canada’s trade by being reliable and innovative , while protecting the environment through providing leadership and strategic direction on all facets of marine and land operations, supply chain optimization and trade development involving the port authority’s marine jurisdiction.

The VicePresident, Operations & Supply Chain plays a key role in the strategic planning process by advancing solutions to modernize and increase the movement of vessels and cargo within our jurisdiction. Crucial to this role will be responsibility for overseeing the development and implementation of the port authority’s Connect+ initiatives designed to increase innovation, data sharing and collaboration throughout supply chains essential to moving Canada’s trade through the port authority. The Vice President, Operations & SupplyChain will also oversee the management of strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including Government stakeholders, strategic customers, key industry associations, and major supply chain partners.

The ideal candidate will be well versed in leading the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives in a marine and land operations environment that enables the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods through the supply chain gateway. Leadership in the development and implementation of digital transformation strategies, plans and performance targets resulting in efficiency and cost effectiveness of the supply chain network is key. Candidates will have demonstrated high levels of professionalism, strategic thinking skills and strong leadership capabilities. Good judgment, emotional maturity, strong relationship skills and high ethical standards will contribute to success in this role.
