This position will support and mentor Team Members, liaise with the relevant stakeholders at site, and be a key part of the local leadership team. The candidate selected for this position must clearly demonstrate their prior experience in a safety position, have the capability to problem solve, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the capability to be a safety leader and deliver results.

This is an onsite position at the Cenovus Upgrader facility in Lloydminster.
Here is a preview of what you’ll be doing:
Mentor and coach a workforce to be skilled in rail operation and the transloading of various bulk products, including the development and execution of site-specific procedures.
Be a safety leader by setting an example, following procedures, praising safe behavior, correcting unsafe acts and building a team who represents the Savage safety culture.
Spend up to 50% in the field, observing and working alongside team members as they perform their tasks.
Ensure all activities are performed in a safe and healthy manner, and in compliance with Savage’s applicable policies, regulatory obligations and customer requirements.
Communicate or escalate operational problems or issues
Build trust between Savage, the customer, regulators, and others in a way that creates value and provides us with the opportunity to elevate our relationship with them.
Provide leadership and coaching in execution of the Savage’s S7 and 5S Systems
Thorough understanding of Railway Operations and Rail Safety
Assist with updating, maintaining and continuous improvement of team training binders, safety training, and training platform
Maintain standard Rail Operating Procedures and Safety Management System to meet all regulatory requirements
Ensure Team Member compliance with company, site, and customer policies, procedures, and training requirements
Facilitate incident investigation, root cause analysis, implementation and closure of corrective actions
Work with the team to promote safety including strengthening and empowering designated Safety Specialists
Define goals, KPI’s, or other metrics, as required, with the customer and leadership team and ensure they are implemented and tracked accordingly or as required.

Requirements for a successful SH&E Supervisor
Broad knowledge and understanding of Safety, Health, & Environment including provincial regulations, TDG, and Rail Safety
Proven ability to analyze situations and data to make sound decisions.
Comfortable in front of a group: whether it's training frontline employees or presenting a safety plan of action to a potential customer.
Proficient in MS Office Suite with the ability to navigate Savage's internal reporting system for statistical analysis.
Excellent written communication skills for writing reports, trainings, proposals and more

Comfortable working in the field alongside the team in an industrial /refinery environment
A strong desire to embrace and teach the company culture
Education
Degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or ability to achieve CRSP designation
Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in the rail industry
Minimum of 2-5 years as a safety professional in a refinery, oil and gas or other industrial environments
Extensive knowledge of hazardous materials, transloading
Physical Requirements
Willing to work outside in any weather condition including inclement weather
Must be able to climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend a ladder or other equipment and work at heights
Must be able to stand, kneel or crawl, and walk extensively throughout the day
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Work in environment containing sulfur odor/dust, hazardous noise, confined space, and in hot or cold environments.
Must have the ability to wear all required PPE without restriction.
Must be able to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for the purposes of wearing a respirator and recertify annually, or as needed, when required.
Candidates are required to clear a criminal background check, drug screen, and preemployment medical examination.
Attend and pass all job-required tests, as applicable (WHMIS, TDG, H2S, Fall Arrest, First Aid, and all other site-specific training, as required)
Can travel on occasion, holds a current valid passport for travel to the United States
