GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Consumer Health Services Division, is searching for an Inspection Specialist II in our Lingle, WY office. The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks in the enforcement of health and sanitation regulations, as well as state and federal food and meat regulations. Inspect food establishments such as retail food stores, meat processing/slaughter plants, public swimming pools and spas, food processing facilities, warehouses, dairy farms, and other establishments to ensure public safety. Performs investigations, confers with, and works with the public on complaints and public health standards. Work independently to schedule and perform inspections and perform assigned tasks.

Conduct inspections and enforce compliance with state and federal regulations.
Operate and maintain an assigned vehicle for inspections.
Educate industry personnel and assist with labeling requirements.
Review facility plans to ensure regulatory compliance.
Manage a caseload of inspections.
Draft reports using a computer-based food safety management system.
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Effectively de-escalate challenging situations.
Utilize software applications proficiently.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in sciences, and two years of experience.
Preference may be given to candidates who are a Certified Profession in Food Safety (CPFS) or a Registered Environmental Health Specialist / Registered Sanitarian (REH/RS).
KNOWLEDGE:
Familiarity with reading and understanding federal and state regulations.
Understanding principles and concepts of basic food safety.
Knowledge of inspection procedures and food production equipment.
Skills in record-keeping and data entry.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist I

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Must be able to read and operate equipment used during inspections
Must be able to perform meat slaughter and processing inspections in a variety of environments
NOTES:

Successful candidate must be or become a Certified Professional in Food Safety (CPFS) or a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitation (REH/RS) within eight months of employment.
