GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Performs nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to individuals, families, groups, or the population to provide services in the Maternal Child Health (MCH) programs, Ryan White Immunization Program, and the Communicable Disease Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Provides direct nursing care in the home and other settings through the nursing process, including teaching and counseling patients and families in patient care.

  • Documents nursing care given, according to State Standards for Documentation, and on time.

  • Plans and conducts health clinics and classes at various sites within the county.

  • Refers patients to other community resources and collaborates with those providers in outpatient care.

  • Represent the agency on local/county/state/national boards, committees, or organizations.

  • Work with the county nurse manager, agency staff, and state PH Emergency Preparedness team to plan, train, and implement public health emergency response.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES /**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to a BSN with work experience in public health nursing.

**Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming.

**Valid driver's license required.

KNOWLEDGE:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lift/transport medical equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs, including offsite clinics and classes.

  • Climb stairs to patient homes.

  • Drive long distances; travel throughout the state.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • As a condition of employment, the successful applicant employed will be required to execute a release of personnel records to the director/board/commissioners in the county area involved to be used on an as-needed basis. In addition, the successful applicant will be required to complete an Employee Health Assessment, which includes verification of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases. If found to be non-immune, vaccination will be required unless medically contraindicated. Yearly influenza vaccination is also required unless medically contraindicated.

  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

  • BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals is required.

  • The Wyoming Department of Health is anE-Verify (https://www.e-verify.gov/) employer.

  • New state employees and temporary employees accepting a permanent position

  • Current state employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been open to the public

  • One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.

  • Internal candidates must remain in the position for a minimum of (1) year from the promotion date.

  • Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
