GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Opening for Full-Time Public Health Nurse. This position is responsible for the implementation of public health programs within Carbon County, within the Saratoga/ Encampment office. This position focuses on Maternal Family Health programs, Children’s Special Health, Welcome Home visits, premature infants, consulting for breastfeeding clients as well as Immunization clinics for adults, schools, and infants, Medicaid Waiver Program, long-term care LT 101 assessments for nursing home and waiver clients, participation in the County Public Health Emergency Preparedness plans, as well as programs that the public health needs within the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
Provides professional nursing services to patients, clients, and staff in chronic as well as acute care settings.
Performs nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment & evaluation of ill and disabled persons.
Provides continuous care of patients through assessing, evaluating, and implementing processes to ensure appropriate patient care and outcomes.
Accurately prepares and administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
Provides pre- and post-operative care.
Triages calls from staff and handles routine concerns and emergencies.
Communicates with Physician and follows through on orders as appropriate.
Review lab values and consult reports.
Provide formal assessments, documentation, and progress notes.
Assists with patient ADLs (activities of daily living).
Trains and assigns work to LPNs and Aides, but no direct supervision is performed.
Arrange for and conduct nursing clinics and classes; teach individuals and groups in health promotion and disease prevention.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state, preference given to those with a BSN with work experience in maternal-child health. Two years of nursing experience required. Background check will be required along with fingerprints, current Wyoming driver’s license
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of laws, principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing.
Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records, charts, reports, and observations.
Knowledge of principles of the nursing process and scientific process.
Knowledge of public healthcare functions and essential services.
Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision making.
Knowledge of physical, biological, and behavioral sciences.
Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
Knowledge of work management and leadership theory, and practice.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local law pertaining to healthcare.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to:
Lift/transfer patients to different positions.
Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.
Restrain clients for treatments, climb stairs to patient homes, and drive long distances.
Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
Work evenings, nights, and /or weekends when the situation requires it.
A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant.

As a condition of employment, the successful applicant employed will be required to execute a release of personnel records to the director/board/commissioners in the county area involved on an as-needed basis. If found to be non-immune, vaccination will be required unless medically contraindicated. Yearly influenza vaccination is also required, unless medically contraindicated.

One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.

Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
