GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Diversional Activity Technician is a Certified Nurse Assistant position that uses leisure and light recreational activities to promote self-esteem and personal fulfillment with the patients at the Wyoming State Hospital. With an emphasis on holistic care, they will provide social, physical, and intellectual support after hours and on weekends.

The city of Evanston is a small Rocky Mountain community that is a 45-minute drive from the world-famous ski slopes of Park City, Utah. The area surrounding Evanston is excellent for recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Assists with the development and administration of diversional activities, including recreational or leisure activities.
Develops, implements, and evaluates specific diversional activities.
Creates a schedule that includes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual diversional activities for groups of patients.
Monitors participants during diversional activities to ensure hospital safety.
Completes regular inventories of supplies and equipment and prepares requests for new or replacement equipment and supplies.
Documents daily progress notes detailing how patients responded to the activities.
Prepares schedules for diversional activities across multiple units.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with current Recreational / CNA certification.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the area of specialization.
Knowledge of Therapeutic Communication skills and building strong working relationships with patients.
Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques.
Knowledge of emergent and dangerous situations and how to physically respond to them utilizing MANDT-approved techniques.
Knowledge of individual and group work techniques used in diversional activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Recreation Therapy)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Recreation Therapy)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to perform CPR, First Aide, Crisis Management, and utilize proper infection control and defensive driving practices.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or one-quarter of one's body weight with assistance.

A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
