Job Description

General Description:

The Process Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing manufacturing efficiency, reducing costs, and maintaining product quality. Their contributions help manufacturing facilities operate more smoothly and competitively in today’s industrial landscape. The Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, increasing efficiency, and reducing production costs. They analyze current processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance product quality and workflow efficiency.

Essential Functions:

  • Must have the ability & willingness to perform at the expected level of attendance at IKO Glass Fibers, Inc.; to work every day, on time, as scheduled.

  • Promote and maintain IKO safety goals and ensure a safe work environment for all employees. Leads safety and housekeeping efforts and corrective actions within department, assigned projects, and areas with goal of zero incidents. Exemplifies safety in all actions and leads by example.

  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.

  • Devote special attention to minimizing changeover time in our production processes. Work closely with cross-functional teams to streamline changeover procedures and implement best practices.

  • Analyze production data and conduct time and motion studies to streamline operations.

  • Analyze and optimize cycle times and implement strategies to shorten cycle times while maintaining or improving product quality.

  • Develop and implement process improvement strategies to increase productivity and reduce waste.

  • Establish quality control protocols and standards to maintain consistent product quality.

  • Develop and implement testing and inspection procedures to monitor product specifications.

  • Investigate and resolve quality issues, non-conformance incidents, and deviations along with the Quality Manage.

  • Assess machinery and equipment for performance and reliability.

  • Recommend upgrades, replacements, or modifications to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.

  • Initiate cost reduction ideas into the fiberglass melting and forming process to further the goal of being the safest, high-quality, low-cost fiberglass producer.

  • Directs multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizes completion of projects according to company objectives. Documentation of projects and process changes are communicated and updated.

  • Accountable for the overall operation of the forming level from the bushing block to the pack out scales.

  • Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

  • Other duties as required.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation), with the ability to effectively work with others in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to handle complex assignments with a proactive attitude.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to develop and manage a budgetary control process for areas of responsibility.

  • Analytical, data-driven problem solving and action planning skills.

  • Ability to make independent and well thought out decisions.

  • Organized, self-starter, results oriented, unique problem solver.

  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma

Beneficial Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with process simulation and optimization software

  • Experience in making data-driven decisions and utilization of statistics to solve problems and monitor processes.

  • Experience with cycle time data and reduction processes, process flow diagrams, change over reduction experience

Training Requirements:

  • Staying updated on emerging technologies and automation solutions to improve processes.

  • Any training required by IKO

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee daily to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves objects up to 50 lbs.

  • Regularly bends, stoops, stretches, and reaches to stock office supplies, etc.

  • Frequently moves about the facility to survey plant and associates.

  • Regularly operates computer and other office equipment.

  • Occasionally attends meetings away from the office.

  • Regularly work outside in various extreme weather conditions.

PPE Requirements:

  • No PPE required unless working out of the office area.

  • In plant areas, long sleeve shirt, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses with side shields are required. Hard hat may be required under some conditions

Education Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and at least six (5) years’ experience in a manufacturing facility.
