Job Description

The Research Associate will assist the institute with project planning, development, management, and implementation of research and education projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a variety of natural resources projects on Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

  • Plan and execute a variety of surveys for multiple floral and faunal taxa, compiling data, curating survey reports, and making management recommendations for the installation in support of the Sikes Act and their Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan.

  • Perform independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.

  • Prepare proposals for funding agencies, operation of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research.

-Design, plan, conduct, and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects-Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data.-Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results-Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and clientele oriented publications.-Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects.-Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.-Install, operate and/or repair research equipment.

-Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience:-Bachelor’s degree in relevant field-Two years of related professional experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:-Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment-Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.

-Skilled in Microsoft Office applications

-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

-Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and/or long hours

-Ability to travel for extended periods (35-50% travel)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Skilled in using R, RStudio, and LaTeX

-Skilled in using ArcPro, QGIS, or other geospatial software

-Have basic knowledge of various flora and fauna taxa and be willing to work on a variety of projects
