Position SummaryThis position leads and supervises the Moda Behavioral Health unit by managing workflow, training staff, auditing quality, and reporting cost savings and other performance measures. This is a full-time hybrid position based in Portland, Oregon. Pay Range$92,940.40 - $118,497.46 ​​​annually, DOE.Actual pay is based on qualifications. Applicants who do not exceed the minimum qualifications will only be eligible for the low end of the pay range.

Required Skills, Experience & Education:

  • Current unrestricted Oregon license as mental health professional, (e.g., Registered Nurse, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist).

  • Requires at least three years recent experience in behavioral health, (mental health and/or chemical dependency), treatment setting; or three years recent experience in health plan care management position.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills,

  • Typing speed of a minimum of 35 wpm on a computer keyboard.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Familiarity with case management database software preferred.

  • Analytical and detail oriented, with demonstrated project management and personal time/task management skills.

  • Excellent problem solving, memory retention and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and project a professional business image.

  • Ability to come to work on time on a daily.

Primary Functions:

  • Ensures HS department standards and goals are achieved through training, delegating, and coaching of staff. Develops, maintains, and reports performance measures for work team.

  • Supervises staff, providing daily work direction, vacation scheduling, monitoring attendance, giving performance reviews, hiring, and training new employees.

  • Takes a leading role in the planning, development, organization, and implementation of Moda BH clinical protocols, policies and procedures, and medical criteria.

  • Participates in creation of annual Quality Improvement Work Plan and annual Quality Improvement Review. Oversees implementation of BH aspects of QI Work Plan.

  • Provides leadership for and participates in the BH Utilization Review program.

  • Ensures denial notices are completed timely and in compliance with all relevant mandates and QI standards.

  • Functions as a BH Care Coordinator as needed.

  • Reviews and updates BH policies and procedures according to HS department schedule.

  • Establishes effective, collaborative working relationships with other departments (i.e., Customer Service, Professional Relations, Marketing, and Medical Claims).

  • Develops and implements staff development/education curricula. Facilitates and coordinates Moda BH Team Meetings.

  • Maintains client and patient confidentiality always.

  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of reports to internal and external customers as assigned.

  • Thoroughly understands Moda Health plan descriptions and Medical UPMs as they apply to behavioral health benefits, and behavioral health provider contracts.

  • Facilitates a collaborative, productive and positive team environment. Actively seeks new ways to improve team performance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions & Contact with Others

  • Office environment with extensive close PC and keyboard work, constant sitting, and phone work. Must be able to navigate multiple screens. Work in excess of 40 hours per week, including evenings and occasional weekends, to meet business need.

  • Internally with all departments. Externally with providers, provider offices and hospitals, members, and groups.
