Corteva Agriscience Research Associate - Dryer Operations in Waimea, Hawaii
Description
This position is responsible for the timely drying, fumigation, shipping, and maintenance of quality seed for the Hawaii Research Center operations location on Kauai. Additionally, this position will be responsible for establishing metrics for all seed processing/conditioning processes, monitoring those processes, and making data-based process improvements. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of plant biology and be comfortable with computers, dryers, and other electronic devices. This position will report to the Site Operations lead and will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for someone with a positive, collaborative attitude, good communication and critical thinking skills, and a knack for creative problem solving. This position supervises a group of Assistants and coordinates activities with other groups and teams.
Duties/Responsibilities - What You'll Do:
Manage day-to-day dryer activities in the site operations group
Dryer operations: provide optimal drying conditions to maximize throughput while ensuring that seed quality standards are met. Assure equipment is in good operating order and troubleshoot as needed. Work with project to plan and manage capacity and workflow. Engage projects in research to evaluate and improve drying processes and seed quality.
Fumigation: Ensure safe, efficacious control of insects through appropriate fumigation practices while minimizing turnaround times.
Shipping and Receiving: coordinate with projects to ensure timely shipping of seed to stakeholders. Follow all regulatory systems to ensure delivery of quality seed.
Supervise full-time employees and contingent workers, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with protocols and regulations
Coordinate with other groups to ensure key steps are completed in a timely and collaborative manner
Communicate openly with team and supervisors on matters of relevance
Promote positive work attitudes and harmonious relations
Willing and able to work flexible schedules, holidays, and weekends during peak periods when required
Support all Hawaii Research Center goals and support other projects when needed

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
Ability to manage people.
Ability to work as part of a larger, culturally diverse group, as well as independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
Ability to bend, reach, and lift repetitively. Occasionally required to carry 20-50 lbs.
Tolerance, willingness, and ability to work in warm conditions and variable environments.
Computer competency and experience with MS Office- Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
Forklift experience
Valid driver's license.
Preferred Skills or Experience
Experience in tropical agriculture and/or horticultural operations.
Ability to acquire a fumigation applicator license within 6 months.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, plant breeding, agriculture, or related plant science field
Two to four years related experience
Alternatively, equivalent levels of relevant education and experience
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $68,500 - $94,660 yearly. This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
