Overview

DATA ANALYST (NHTSA):

Bowhead is seeking a Data Analyst to join our team in Washington, DC, providing technical support on issues related to motor vehicle crashes. The Data Analyst will analyze crash data retrieved from computerized databases, conduct data analysis, and develop technical documentation to support data-driven decision-making.

U.S. Citizenship or Green Card is required for this position. Bowhead will not sponsor H1-B visas. Additionally, candidates must have at least three (3) years of U.S. residency or be a U.S. Citizen to obtain the required Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide data visualization and analytical support to identify trends in motor vehicle crash data and respond to internal and external data requests.

  • Utilize Tableau to develop interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for effective reporting and decision-making.

  • Apply advanced data management and querying techniques within Tableau, ensuring efficient data retrieval and presentation.

  • Work extensively with SQL databases, including writing and optimizing queries for data extraction and transformation.

  • Develop and implement data mining and statistical analysis techniques to enhance data insights.

  • Utilize Level of Detail (LOD) expressions in Tableau to create complex and precise calculations.

  • Perform data blending, joins, and relationships in Tableau to integrate multiple data sources.

  • Create web-based reports and dashboards for data sharing and visualization.

  • Work with SAS for data processing, analysis, and statistical modeling.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Data Analysis, Statistics, or a related technical field preferred; a Bachelor’s degree with at least six (6) semester hours of Data Visualization coursework is required at a minimum.

  • At least one year of experience working with complex projects involving large databases.

  • Extensive experience with Tableau (minimum 5-6 years), including dashboard development, data blending, performance optimization, and advanced calculations.

  • Experience with SQL database management, querying, and optimization.

  • Tableau certification is a plus.

  • Experience working with SAS for data analysis and statistical modeling is preferred.

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills—must be able to present data both orally and in writing.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. A minimum of three (3) years US residency, or US Citizenship, is required for a Public Trust clearance at this location.
