Purpose:
The Public Policy Intern will provide research and support to the Companys Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) Division to assist in developing positions and strategies to advance the Companys goals and mission in close collaboration the Public Policy Team.
Primary responsibilities for this position include identifying and researching current and emerging policy issues that could impact the Company and any of its business lines; summarizing findings verbally or through memos or other documents; monitoring external legislative and regulatory activity, including committees and task forces; and providing occasional administrative support and projects for the Division, as needed. The ideal candidate will be experienced in developing and effectively presenting policy research reports to a larger team and relevant stakeholders. The position may include contributing to cross-functional projects with other teams or divisions and participating in or staffing intra-divisional meetings, inter-divisional meetings, executive meetings, and other Company events.
The incumbent should anticipate working from our Washington, D.C. location on Mondays of each week. We are looking for students who can commit to our work up to 15-20 hours per week during the academic year in the Fall/Spring and 35-40 hours per week during the Summer.
Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the managers, the incumbents accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Conducting research on health policy issues, legislation, and regulation that could impact the Company
Summarizing research for PPGA and broader audiences
Monitoring external legislative and regulatory activities
Supporting associate and executive meetings, events, and community activities
Supporting administrative projects in the Division
Qualifications:
Education: This position requires an individual working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited College or University. Rising Junior or Senior studying Public Health, Public Policy or related field. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above.
Experience: The candidate should have an interest in health policy issues facing the U.S. health care system.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proven effective interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interface with, establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external clients.
Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Written and verbal communication skills including assisting with presentations and proposals.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
Demonstrated skills with various computer applications/software, particularly Microsoft PowerPoint.
Ability to explain complex concepts in a succinct manner.
Experience reviewing and analyzing legislation, regulation and key court cases.
General knowledge of health policy issues facing the U.S. health care system.
Salary Range: $18,720 - $26,000
