Medical Assistant performs a variety of clinical support functions and assists with patient care, under the supervision of a physician or advanced practitioner. Medical Assistant prepares patients for various appointments through initial patient triage, obtaining patient histories, and performing standard medical procedures, as determined by established clinical protocol, policies and procedures.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Obtains patient medical history, reason for visit, and history of present illness in preparation of patient examination 
• Obtains vital signs, reconcile medications with accurate dosage and frequency, record known allergens in patient chart 
• Assists with medical examinations under the direction of provider  
• Maintains accurate and strict confidentiality of patient information in electronic and/or manual systems as established by the appropriate protocols, regulations, and policies. 
• Performs routine specialized procedures, such as venipuncture, EKG, and injections under established protocols 
• Performs various lab functions such as phlebotomy, point of care testing, and culture testing  
• Maintains stock of medicines and medical supplies as necessary  
• Completes physician orders such as patient testing, specialist referrals, and e-prescribing medications  
• Provides instructions and education to patients regarding diagnostic tests, procedures and treatments  
• Performs data entry of lab studies, radiographic tests, and authorization request in compliance with physician/RN directives.  
• Administers some medications, under the direct supervision of provider  
•  Supervises student employees in specified tasks 
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
