Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Park Maintenance Worker (Semi Skilled Laborer) (Seasonal) in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is on the lookout for a dedicated individual to join their team as a Park Maintenance Worker. This role encompasses a range of maintenance tasks at Leonard Harrison State Park and the Hills Creek Complex, which includes light carpentry, plumbing repairs, and the general maintenance of park grounds and facilities. Candidates should be prepared to engage in physically demanding work and be capable of performing their duties in various weather conditions, ensuring that the park remains a welcoming and well-maintained environment for all visitors. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The employee engages in semi-skilled tasks independently or provides support to a skilled worker in executing routine maintenance and construction activities within a State Park. This role involves repairing buildings and facilities by utilizing tools from various trades, including carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing, to ensure effective maintenance. Additionally, the employee is responsible for the upkeep, care, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment utilized throughout the park, ensuring they remain in optimal condition for operational use.

The employee constructs basic forms for concrete work using carpentry tools, mixes and applies cement, and finishes surfaces with masonry tools, as well as laying stone and block walls. Ground maintenance tasks are also part of the role, which includes mowing grass or weeds with riding or hand mowers, cutting firewood, collecting litter, and managing materials with dump trucks or pickup trucks. Other responsibilities encompass cleaning grills, sweeping paved areas, digging holes and ditches, and maintaining drainage systems. The employee is also involved in site preparation, seeding new turf areas, and planting and caring for trees and shrubs.

In addition to these tasks, the employee paints or stains park buildings, signs, and gates, ensuring they are well-maintained and visually appealing. General housekeeping and building maintenance duties are also part of the job, which includes cleaning and stocking restrooms, pit latrines, offices, and other facilities, as well as performing minor repairs like changing light bulbs or tightening fixtures. The employee must ensure the safe and proper use of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools while assisting park visitors and providing information in a courteous and helpful manner. Completing necessary documentation, such as daily logs, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records, and leave slips, is also required. The employee operates a two-way radio following established protocols and performs any related tasks as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment without benefits.
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
