Job Title: Chemical Operator

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Chemical Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing, purifying, and chemically fabricating products through a sequence of batch operations. You will operate a variety of equipment, handle chemicals, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Work from written procedures to process, purify, and chemically fabricate products and their compounds through a sequence of batch operations.

• Operate equipment, including reactors, tanks, pumps, mixers, pH meters, level meters, flow meters, valves, and hoses used in the manufacture of said products.

• Handle liquid and solid chemicals using pumps, scales, and flow meters.

• Weigh, measure, and check raw materials and finished products to ensure batches contain proper ingredients and quantities and maintain accurate inventory.

• Perform product weighing, packaging, labeling, and boxing operations in accordance with SOPs.

• Locate materials in the warehouse and transport them to manufacturing areas using a forklift as needed.

• Collect process samples and interface with laboratory personnel for analysis.

• Maintain required log sheets including batch tickets, packaging sheets, scrubber operation log, pH meter calibration, and equipment inspections.

• Attend required HSE training including Hazardous Waste Management, emergency response, and Hazard Communication, and demonstrate an acceptable level of understanding of topics.

• Package, mark, and label Hazardous Waste containers.

• Operate equipment and follow procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO, OHSA's standards.

• Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in the work area.

• Communicate with the shift leader regarding safety, production, quality, or any other operational issues.

• Actively participate in shift meetings to assist in work planning and continuous improvement.

• Adhere to all corporate, plant, and safety policies/procedures.

• Wear personal protective equipment as applicable.

• Complete all assigned training including corporate, HSE, and Quality specific training.

• Assist other chemical operators in operations, processes, and procedures as needed to ensure efficiencies, safety, and compliance.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least 2 years of applicable experience, preferably in chemical manufacturing.

• Experience with sulfide or cyanide gold reaction processes or other precious metals products.

• Experience working in a clean-room environment.

• Forklift certification and Hazardous Waste Operations certification preferable.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; convey technical information effectively and concisely to engineering, sales, technicians, etc.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with machine operation and material handling.

• Knowledge of warehouse operations.

Work Environment

The work environment includes operating various equipment such as reactors, tanks, pumps, and mixers. You will be handling chemicals and working in a manufacturing setting. The role requires adherence to safety and quality standards, including wearing personal protective equipment and following ISO 9001 and OHSA standards. The position involves shift work, active participation in meetings, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Haven, Connecticut.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
