Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer.

 

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located at our West Jordan, Utah location and reports to the VP of Product Development.

 

Position Summary:

Rock West Composites, Inc. seeks an innovative, self-motivated engineer to tackle diverse engineering challenges across aerospace and industrial projects, primarily involving composite materials. The successful candidate will design and develop components and associated tooling using SolidWorks™, often addressing multidisciplinary requirements. Responsibilities include design concept development, prototype fabrication, testing, and production. The Project Engineer will also support planning, budgeting, schedule tracking, and overall project execution to ensure successful completion.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support planning, budgeting, and schedule tracking for complex development programs.
  • Must be able to create and follow a Microsoft Project schedule.
  • Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions in a team environment.
  • Support new business development and proposal activities.
  • Develop and execute composite program manufacturing plans.
  • Support multiple programs and customers.
  • Perform computer-aided design of tooling, components, and subsystems---preferably using the SolidWorks™ design package.
  • Knowledge of composite materials and their manufacturing processes, including integrated design for lightweight, dimensional stability, manufacturability, precise dimensions, RF performance, thermal conductivity, and thermo-mechanical properties.
  • In-depth understanding of composite materials and processes (fabrics, fibers, prepregs, wet layup, infusion).
  • Knowledge of simple structural analysis for estimating stresses, stiffness, and deflections.
  • Work with teams of structural, manufacturing, RF, and electro-optical engineers on integrated projects.
  • Present designs to customers and interact with them regarding design requirements and the trade-offs between different specifications, cost, and weight.

     

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Materials and Processes Engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct hands-on manufacturing experience, or a Graduate Degree in Engineering with 3 years of experience in manufacturing. Prefer candidates with advanced composite hardware development.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant design and/or analysis experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and other CAD programs.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
  • Strong ability to interface directly with customers.
  • Must have experience in developing and bidding on composite structures.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience tracking project/program costs.
  • Experience in developing project/program schedules.
  • Experience with space hardware is highly desirable.

Compensation:

The compensation range for this position falls within $115,000 - $140,000. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, and other factors permitted by law.
