Job Description:
The IT Data Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of IT monitoring and logging solutions to ensure real-time observability, performance optimization, and proactive issue detection across enterprise infrastructure. The role requires strong expertise in monitoring tools, with Splunk experience highly preferred, along with hands-on skills in log analytics, event correlation, dashboard creation, and alerting strategies. This position will work closely with IT operations, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to ensure effective monitoring, data collection, and performance analysis for cloud, network, and virtualized environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for developing and maintaining the Common Information Model (CIM) to standardize and normalize log data for enhanced correlation and analysis.
Note:
There are two positions available and the positions will be filled at one of four job grade levels: IT Data Infrastructure Engineer I, job grade 7; IT Data Infrastructure Engineer II, job grade 8, IT Data Infrastructure Engineer III, job grade 9; or Senior IT Data Infrastructure Engineer, job grade 10. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire.

Hiring Salary Range: $106,000-135,000
IT Data Infrastructure Engineer III
Hiring Salary Range: $96,000-$121,000
IT Data Infrastructure Engineer II
Hiring Salary Range: $86,000-$108,000
IT Data Infrastructure Engineer I
Hiring Salary Range: $77,000-$96,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level
Responsibilities:
Deploy, configure, and maintain IT monitoring platforms to provide real-time visibility into system performance, event logs, and security incidents.
Administer and optimize log aggregation, indexing, and search capabilities using Security Information and Event Management tools.
Develop and fine-tune alerting mechanisms, thresholds, and correlation rules to reduce false positives and improve incident response.
Design custom dashboards, reports, and visualizations to provide actionable insights into system health and application performance.
Design, develop, and maintain the Common Information Model (CIM) for standardizing log data across multiple sources to enhance correlation and analysis.
Work with cybersecurity teams to integrate security log monitoring, support compliance audits, and enhance threat detection using SIEM solutions.
Develop automation processes using scripting and programming languages to enhance log ingestion, alerting, and monitoring workflows.
Collaborate with business services to develop and implement monitoring best practices, document configurations, and maintain system health to align with business needs and ensure service continuity.
Conduct regular log reviews and audits to detect, respond to, and resolve potential security threats and operational issues
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of infrastructure monitoring systems, and suggesting enhancements where necessary.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, such as NERC CIP, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant standards and best practices.
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.
Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.

Qualifications:
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, business, or a related field or equivalent experience gained through progressively greater responsibilities.
An MS, MBA, or related advanced degree desired.
Skills:
Strong expertise in log analysis, troubleshooting, root cause identification, and event correlation across diverse infrastructure environments.
Ability to create custom dashboards and reports for system monitoring.
Proficiency in scripting tools and programming languages for automation and log processing.
Strong understanding of operating system logs, event collection, and log correlation across diverse platforms, with the ability to document system configurations, monitoring processes, and incident response strategies to support operational continuity.
Familiarity with change management concepts and critical systems functional testing to ensure monitoring effectiveness.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technology solutions in business terms; an effective listener and communicator.
Keen attention to detail.

Other:
Willingness to travel as required for training and meetings throughout service territory.
