The Dannon Company Senior Manager, Health and Safety in White Plains, New York

About the Job:

At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire a Senior Manager, Health and Safety which is a hybrid role based in one of our plant locations or HQ offices. We have plant locations in Dallas, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Eugene, Oregon; City of Industry, California; Chatsworth, California; West Jordan, Utah; Minster, Ohio; Mt Crawford, Virginia; Dubois, Pennsylvania; Bridgeton, New Jersey; Jacksonville, Florida. Our two headquarter offices are located in Broomfield, CO and White Plains, NY.

The Senior Manager Health and Safety (Corporate) is responsible for the development and execution of safety, and health compliance, management and continuous improvement for our Danone North America Manufacturing, Research & Innovation (R&I) sites and other business locations across Danone North America.

In this role, you will assist with strategy development and implementation of health and safety technical programs, standards, and processes (including digital) to recognize and reduce risk within the Network. You will actively engage with all Health and Safety professionals within the Danone health and safety network to ensure strategic plan execution. You will also create and implement health and safety programs to support an interdependent safety culture and will have a major role in the execution and improvement of programs such as WISE2, WiseR, Network Employee H&S Engagement, Ergonomic Innovation, Industrial Hygiene, Behavior Based Safety, Employee Wellness, etc. which will drive improved health and safety performance and efficiencies. You will be the owner and internal subject matter expert for all health and safety digital systems.


The incumbent is successful through strong leadership and communication, vision, and organization/planning to ensure these goals are accomplished in a professional, fast paced atmosphere that enhances Company social responsibility and economic viability.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of the health and safety short and long-term strategy
  • Develop and implement health and safety tools, programs, standards, policies, procedures and best practice techniques, cost effectively and efficiently across all Danone North America locations including all manufacturing sites, Research & Innovation sites and small business locations to reduce risk.
  • Be an active participant in the IWS Environmental, Health and Safety Pillar for North American Region.
  • Support sites in managing health and safety compliance issues, concerns, regulatory issues including notices of violation and employee complaints and will support the plants in a collaborative solution and response as necessary.
  • Ensure locations maintain ongoing compliance with local, state and company health and safety standards. Communicate regulatory changes and impact to sites for technical health and safety standards.
  • Lead the incident investigation review process for all health and safety related incidents, including but not limited to recordable injuries, first aid events, and near miss incidents. Ensure site teams have determined root cause of incidents and provide support of corrective action plans.
  • Support the plants in active injury management processes.
  • Provide regular communication and updates to locations on health and safety lessons learned from the Danone Health and Safety Community and ensure that corrective / preventive actions are taken at other sites to control the specific risk.
  • Support the execution and improvement of programs such as WISE2, WiseR, health and safety risk assessment and mitigation, which will drive a strong, interdependent safety culture and improved EHS performance and efficiencies.
  • Act as the administrator for all health and safety digital systems and performs tasks such as adding new users, requesting access to global tools, modifying access levels, etc.
  • Manages health, and safety data, metrics, and reporting for Danone North America (weekly, monthly, annually, adhoc). Including completion of required global Danone safety statutory reporting campaigns/audits for North America.
  • Develop and distribute weekly Environmental, Health and Safety "toolbox talks," which are one-page summaries of important EHS topics to be utilized by the plant teams to facilitate training, dialogue.
  • Actively engage with all Health and Safety professionals within the Danone North America network and will co-chair functional health and safety committees.
  • Participate in supporting the efforts of the Global Health and Safety Leadership Team as they build programs and processes for the global Danone Network.
  • Participate and Lead culture and compliance assessment audits at multiple Danone North America locations.
  • Support and help network locations with case management of Workers Compensation claims.

The base compensation range for this position is $105k - $140k commensurate with experience. About You:

  • You have a bachelors or master's degree in safety, environmental health, chemistry or a related field, required.
  • You have 8+ years of EHS experience (plant, distribution, service organization, corporate, etc.), required.
  • You must be knowledgeable with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills and have ability to interface effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization.
  • You have exceptional leadership skills and ability to mentor and motivate (a real passion for people and their health and safety).
  • You are a change agent and able to drive process improvements and cultural change and can inspire others to action through collaboration and influence.
  • You have knowledge of applicable federal, state and company environmental, health and safety regulations / requirements and generally accepted good practices in industry.
  • You are able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and can meet tight deadlines when dictated by schedules.
  • You have good computer skills and are proficient in MS Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Database Management programs.
  • You have strong organizational skills and can work well under pressure.
  • You have the highest level of integrity and ethics.
  • You are comfortable working in typical office and manufacturing environment.
  • You are able to travel up to 50%, which could include travel on weekends, as business needs dictate.
