Recruitment:The State Highway Administration’s District 1 is currently recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor I position located in Wicomico County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. This job announcement may be used for future vacancies throughout SHA.

Nature of Work:This position will supervise the maintenance, repairs, fabrication, body repair, and painting work on motor vehicles, diesel powered equipment, and heavy construction equipment. This position supervises a staff of heavy equipment mechanics and other personnel which may at times include body repair/painters and others. Work will involve scheduling job assignments, planning and programming maintenance service schedules, supervising the tool and shop parts inventory. This position is also responsible for maintaining record files, writing reports, coordinating repair work with regular maintenance schedules in-house and with outside vendors. Additionally, this position has responsibilities for facility maintenance, upkeep of the daily environmental compliance of the shop and yard, recycling management and recordkeeping.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. Three (3) years of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
Notes:
Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.)
Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.
Licenses & Certifications
Candidates must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the state of Maryland.

Employees in this class may be required to have satisfied the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III level of the employing administration's certification program.
