STATE OF NC DEPT OF CULTURAL RESOURCES Assistant Manager of Retail Sales in Wilmington, North Carolina

Primary Purpose of Position: TheAssistant Manager of Retail Salesis one of a team of Battleship staff members that work in the Battleship's Retail Sales Department which include the Gift Shop and Ticket Window (admissions). This position assists the Director of Retail Sales with everyday operations of the Gift Shop, Admissions and E-Commerce areas.

*Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*

  • Reporting to and assisting the Director of Retail Sales in coordinating daily operations of the Sales Department.
  • Providing highly skilled management in directing operations for the ships store and ticket desk, including assisting in training sales personnel.
  • Serving as Merchandise Manager, overseeing inventory control for the ships gift shop (both brick and mortar and online) from the time merchandise is delivered to the store until it is sold to a visitor.
  • Providing customer service and problem resolution to vendors, ticket buying customers, special admissions and groups.
  • Working independently and supporting the Director of Retail Sales to provide personnel management, cash management, other duties which may impact the Store and Admissions operation.

  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to follow communication protocols.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and solve problems
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments with skills in gathering data, compiling information, and preparing reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing effective supervisory practices
  • Demonstrated experience with inventory control practices
  • Demonstrated experience operating a POS terminal
  • Demonstrated experience working in a retail environmentproviding customer service to the general public

Management Prefers:

  • Experience with budgeting at a retail operation
  • Experience with using Counterpoint POS terminal
  • Understanding of North Carolinas EAGLE internal control program
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Division Description: TheUSS NORTH CAROLINA{tabindex="0"}Battleship Memorial is the States memorial to over 11,000 North Carolinians who died in service in WWII, as well as a top tourist destination, and center of education. The Memorial operates as an enterprise of the state and receives no appropriations to operate.
