Saint-Gobain Category Purchasing Manager, Raw Materials in WORCESTER, Massachusetts

This position is responsible for managing various categories of raw material purchases for Abrasives and serves as the primary contact for one or more operational sectors. Reporting to the Director of Purchasing, this role is strategic and requires accountability for sourcing strategies and outcomes that affect the abrasives business. The Category Manager will develop clear and formal long-term strategies for sourcing raw materials in alignment with the goals and objectives of business units, while ensuring compliance with regional purchasing policies and the Internal Controls Reference Framework (ICRF). All corporate purchasing policies must be implemented and adhered to at both the category and site levels

This position is crucial for ensuring business continuity, mitigating risks, and maintaining a consistent supply. The candidate will need to analyze various data points, including supplier scorecards, historical data, and market trends, to develop a long-term strategy. They will take ownership of the managed categories and be accountable for any production interruptions resulting from supplier performance.

The role involves setting strategies for key raw materials that influence profitability and leading negotiations to achieve cost benefits. Strong communication skills are essential for presenting to groups and translating data into actionable insights. The candidate must also excel in conflict management and problem-solving, facilitating discussions with stakeholders to create win-win solutions.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business-related field (Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing) or relevant experience in the required field; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in a Purchasing role

  • Familiar with leading high spend/complexity RFP’s; Contract understanding and redaction; Supplier relationship management

  • Full understanding of P2P process

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills; must be able to interface with varying levels in the organization and across functions.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment utilizing problem-solving and prioritizing skills while remaining professional and calm in high-stress situations.

  • Computer proficiency, including a strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Intermediate spreadsheet skills.

  • Ability to utilize Corporate Purchasing e-Tools.
