Utility Transmission and Distribution Senior Project Coordinator or Project Manager

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Utility Transmission and Distribution Senior Project Coordinator or Project Manager located at different location, including Columbus General Office, Kearney Operations Center, Norfolk Operations Center, York Operations Center in Nebraska. Position closes November 10, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Position Summary

Senior Project Coordinator:

The incumbent plans, directs, and coordinates the daily activities of designated programs and/or projects to ensure overall development and implementation is accomplished per documented goals, objectives, and schedules. The incumbent works under the representative department managers and closely with field supervision, engineers, analysts, Telecommunications, Corporate Security, contractors, project managers as well as Technical Training on complex programs and projects to apply project controls, organization, detail planning to assist with technical/project direction, and to implement approved programs/project plans. Coordinator level is expected to support business case development as assigned. Independent financial performance monitoring and analyzing as well as the capability to train/teach others in the basis of their program/project. For programs/projects requiring detailed accountability, Senior Project Coordinators must be capable of business case development.

Project Manager:

The incumbent uses specific methodology to plan, schedule, and track project work; and uses identified tools to collect, compute, and format the entire range of project data relative to work performed, deadlines, schedules, cost, cash flow, and a variety of other information.

The incumbent applies an overall approach to assemble a comprehensive plan and cover all areas of work which is at all times flexible and will quickly and accurately reflect the effects of any changes in any aspect of the project plan.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that assigned projects are safely executed on schedule, within cost limits, and to the quality specified.

Education, Training and Experience

Senior Project Coordinator:

Education

BS in engineering, finance, economics, business, marketing (OR) related field plus five years' experience; (OR) Associate degree in a related field plus 8 years' experience; (OR) High School Diploma + 12 years utility experience

Prior Related Experience

Multi-task project coordination/oversight or past supervisory experience is required. Previous experience in utility industry construction methods and electrical system operations is required. Project management, leading, planning, and directing team members is highly desirable.

Project Manager:

Education

Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree (preferably in a technical field) and five years of experience. (OR) Associate's degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of seven years of experience. (OR) High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) and a minimum of nine years of experience is required.

Prior Related Experience

Experience preferred to be in engineering, operations, work control, maintenance, technology, or related functions at an electric utility. Previous nuclear experience is strongly preferred for nuclear positions.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Senior Project Coordinator:

Ability to be certified in Project Management.

Project Manager:

The incumbent is required to obtain Project Management Professional (PMP) certification within one year of position acceptance.

Prerequisite requirements for PMP certification:

BA/BS degree, 4,500 hours of qualified* project management experience, and 36 non-overlapping months of qualified* project management experience.

High school diploma, 7,500 hours of qualified* project management experience, and 60 non-overlapping months of qualified* project management experience.

Qualified experience includes project responsibilities in the following areas:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Senior Project Coordinator:

Implements approved program/project plans and assist in development and ongoing activities of program/project planning throughout the project implementation or sustain program to maintain reliability and program/project adherence. Reviews staffing requirements and the allotment of resources as needed.

Establishes and maintains effective working relations, and works in a team environment with: Supervisors, Engineers, Analysts, Telecommunications, Corporate Security, Contractors, Project Managers as well as Technical Training to outline a work plan and assign duties, responsibilities, timelines, and scope of authority. Assists with problem resolution through research to provide technical advice. Develops and administer training as needed with Technical Training. Works with external partners to ensure successful development and implementation of associated projects.

Provides overall project coordination functions including directing and coordinating multiple tasks of programs(s) or projects(s) to ensure they progress on schedule and within the pre-determined project plan.

Ensures successful implementation of assigned projects including requests for proposals, contract development, or other process support documentation. Assists management with special assignments concerning issues related to contracts and/or compliance. Prepares and presents project status reports, will prepare white papers for pre-board and board reports to management, clients, and other reports as required.

Interprets and applies District policy and procedures in the programs/projects design and implementation process. Must be able to recommend changes as necessary for successful implementation of assigned programs/projects.

Directly plans and manages assigned programs/projects which are typically complex independently while keeping management and necessary outside stakeholders abreast of changes and have a working knowledge of business case financial & risk analytics.

Project Manager:

Proficiently execute project management best practices from assignment to closeout and ensure that all phases of the projects meet approved safety, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.

Understand and operate the Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) Project Systems Module. (External hires must complete Project Systems Module training prior to being assigned a project.)

Maintain an active interface with the customer and assure the customer criteria and objectives are met and the customer is kept fully aware of progress and participates in major decisions.

Plan, assemble, organize, supervise, and maintain a project management team to successfully execute all phases of projects. Administer all policies and procedures associated with project personnel. Define and manage interfaces.

Plan, schedule, and execute all phase projects in accordance with District project management policies and guidelines. Decide the degree of detailed planning necessary to effectively manage each phase project.

Develop contracting and material procurement strategies that optimize cost, schedule, and quality considerations in conjunction with procurement and contracts. Negotiate changes to contracts within the general scope of work with support of contract administration.

Establish project control and risk mitigation strategies and ensure their implementation to evaluate critical elements of the work and identify forecasted variances from plans so that corrective action can be taken in a timely manner.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 14 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $7,746.00 - $9,876.00

Pay Grade - 15 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $8,888.00 - $11,333.00

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
